WHY WE NEED TO CONTROL THE PROJECT

WHY WE NEED TO CONTROL THE PROJECT

UNCERTAINTY IN THE PROJECT

All projects are unique. Although the project may be similar to others that have been undertaken in the past, there will always be differences to be accommodated. Some of these differences will be identified at the start of the project, others will emerge during development. It is therefore important to maintain control by constantly monitoring progress in order to effect any necessary changes in a timely manner.

When a project starts, there is a great deal of uncertainty about its outcome. As time elapses and the project is developed, a better view of what remains to be done emerges. This new view allows us to reduce or eliminate some of the uncertainty.

HOW DO WE REDUCE THE UNCERTAINTY ?

The essential ingredients in reducing the uncertainty are:

Defining the projects objectives and its deliverables.
Regularly monitoring what has been achieved and what remains to be done.
Regularly checking and updating the project requirements.
Refining/clarifying the projects objectives and deliverables.

All comments and feedback are therefore welcome.
