PRODUCTS

WHAT ARE PRODUCTS ?

A product is any output or deliverable from a project which is commissioned to provide its client or sponsor with something new - it may be a new computer system, a new office or a new organisation structure. For example, a new Information System project might contain three products a specification document, software and a user manual. Similarly, a Business Management project to organise an office move might contain four products a contract for the purchase of a new office block, a plan of the new office layout, a contract for the removal, and a contract for the sale of the old office.

WHY /HOW DO WE USE THEM ?

Products are used to break the project into manageable units which can be discussed and agreed before we build them. To enable us to do this, the Project Manager and rest of the project team develop a Product Description for each product that is to be delivered.

WHAT DOES A PRODUCT DESCRIPTION LOOK LIKE ?

An example of a Product Description for a User Manual is given below.

ABOUT THE BLOG

This is a series of coaching blogs that eventually will become a book. By blogging each item I hope to share each element in easy to read bite size chunks, maybe invite some people to subscribe to see the next posting and hopefully encourage some comments, feedback and suggestions which will improve the content for the blog and eventually the book. All comments and feedback are therefore welcome.
