THE STRUCTURED APPROACH

THE STRUCTURED APPROACH

PRINCE2 PRojects IN Controlled Environments is all about a Structured Approach.

It is a Waterfall approach. Waterfall Model methodology which is also known as Liner Sequential Life Cycle Model. Waterfall Model followed in the sequential order, and so project development team only moves to next phase of development or testing if the previous step completed successfully.

WHAT IS A STRUCTURED APPROACH?

It is like a recipe! A structured approach means that we are using a set of procedures based on how successful projects have been managed in the past.

WHY IS IT USEFUL ?

The structured approach helps us to follow successful projects and to benefit from previous experience. Without having a structure to follow, the Project Manager may well miss out something important. The approach is regularly updated to include any other lessons learnt so that it continues to be useful in the future.

WHAT IS PRINCE ?

PRINCE (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is one of the most common structured approaches used for managing projects. PRINCE was developed from experience of over 900 projects in the UK government sector.

DO WE USE PRINCE ?

Yes ! The structured approach used on all Business and Technology projects is based on PRINCE. What has been done is to tailor some parts of PRINCE to reflect the size and type of projects carried out by the organisation. We have differentiated between small and major projects and created two sets of procedure files accordingly.

DO WE ALWAYS USE THIS APPROACH ?

Mostly, However, all the procedures are not rigidly applied to every project. They are used as guidance and applied sympathetically to each project.
